CRA BOARD MEETING October 25, 2007
In attendance: James Green, Wilma Fisher, Sandy Sarniak Secretary’s Report: Secretary’s report from last month (September) could not be found. Mysterious goblins must have eaten the report because all signs of it have disappeared. Treasurer’s Report: No Treasurer’s report. Treasurer not present at the meeting. Legislative Report: Wilma gave an extensive Legislative Report that was very interesting. She reports that Senator Kennedy is very active in his support of Vocational Rehabilitation. At this time, it looks like a bill to incorporate Voc Rehab into WIA is up for a vote in January. Before our State Legislature is the question of what happens when Referendum C comes to an end. Wilma feels the big issues will be Transportation and funding for Medicare and Medicaid. We still have plans to visit the legislature and Wilma will talk to Alice in December or January as to when the best time will be. There are lots of changes in the Senate and House of Representatives. Website: No report. Website administrator not present. Membership: It appears that the training did not generate any new membership. Old Business: James attended the NRA Conference. CRA covered his expenses. He felt it was a very valuable experience and reaped many benefits from the trainings that were offered. It seems many other States are experiencing a crisis in membership. It appears that the states that have the support of their administrators are doing well, the others are not. One State-Kansas has only one member. New Business: Christmas Party will be Friday, December 14 th . We will convene a meeting at McCormick and Schmick’s in the Tech Center at 3:00 p.m. Please RSVP to Sandy (303) 866-3899 by the next meeting. The Government Affairs Conference is being held March 9-11 in Alexandria, VA. There maybe grant money for some of us to attend. More info is on the NRA website. The topics will be salaries for VR counselors and the National Employment Network with Kathy West-Evans of CSAVR Next meeting: Friday, November 30, Denver Metro Administrative Room in Building A.
CRA BOARD MEETING July 20, 2007
In attendance: Steve Allen, Cathy Kohl, Peg Schmitz, James Green, Sonja Waller, Wilma Fisher, George Shipley
Secretary’s Report: James approves the minutes from June 22, 2007, Sonja seconds.
Treasurer’s Report: We had an insufficient funds check returned by the bank for a check written to James. James’ bank also charged him $15.00. Peg will move $1500 from savings to checking to pay for the training costs. James accepts the last report from June and Sandy seconds. Legislative Report: According the Wilma, it looks like we’ll have the same State budget as last year. Referendum C has lots of money still going to highways, K-12, and higher education. There are bills to try to eliminate healthcare for children. Hospital quality information will now be on the internet. Wilma reminded us that we will need to set a date to visit the Legislature again. We picked a number of dates to have a reception for the legislators at George’s office for breakfast to discuss and update current issues (Healthcare, Referendum C, etc.). We will try for a date in October. Membership: James gave Sonja an updated roster. Sonja will call each one to update our list. Website: George has been updating the website and it looks great. The work is completed for now. Old Business: Training Food: We will order Duffy’s for breakfast (Continental) and box lunches. Wilma will order once we get a final count of participants. So far we have approximately 40 registered. George has asked that tables be set up in the room we are using. We would need to decorate first thing in the morning because there is a meeting in the same room in the evening. There will be a Hawaiian theme and we should try to wear luau-type clothing. All members should meet at the training site between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. to decorate. Board members are invited to Papadeaux’s the evening of August 22 for a dinner with Linda Winslow and Nancy Smith. New Business: NRA Conference Peg, Sandy and James have applied to DVR to pay expenses for the NRA National Conference and Traning. (As of today, August 6, Sandy was denied). James and Peg have yet to hear. Next meeting: Friday, August 17 at Metro Denver DVR.
CRA BOARD MEETING JUNE 22, 2007 In Attendance: James Green, Kari Niehaus, Sandy Sarniak, Cathy Kohl, Craig Jones, Kathy Brewer, Dane Talmadge, Peg Schmitz, and Doreen Raad
Secretary’s Report: No report was written for May since only an informal meeting was held to discuss the training and put together packets. Legislative Report: Wilma Fisher was not present to give a report. Treasurer’s Report: We have a balance in our saving’s account of $7755.10 for May. There is $606.77 in our Checking account. Money from checking went for food, materials for our training brochure, Great Plains Regional NRA with a deposit of funds from NRA. Website Report: No website report since George was not present. The website is updated and James will contact George to get the brochure on the website. Membership report: James took part in a teleconference yesterday on membership. Linda Winslow, Executive Director of NRA and 70 people from around the country took part in discussing 10 ways to recruit members. James felt it was helpful.
OLD Business: The brochures have been printed on hot pink paper and designed by Bonnie Rankin. They look very nice. Karen Ferrington has approved DVR support by paying for training. Jams will check to see if DVR will pay for overnight stay the night before the conference. CEU’s for Matt Markve are taken care of. Peg will send in money for the CEU’s for Dee Funkhauser‘s presentation. Table Decorations, trinkets, door prizes and food will be discussed at a committee meeting comprised of Peg, James, Cathy and Sandy on Friday, July 6 at 10:00 in Cathy’s office. Choices for catering include: Olive Garden, Mimi’s Café, Black Eyed Pea, etc. Cathy will also contact Debbie Blevins for ideas. Cathy will check to see if the Chamber of Commerce will donate the registration bags.
New Business: James suggested we have meetings in different offices so we can stress the benefits of belonging to CRA. Sandy suggested we do this every other month . This will be discussed at a later date. Next meeting: Friday, July 20. Future meetings are posted on our website.
Meeting Adjourned. CRA BOARD MEETING March 23, 2007
In Attendance: James Green, Kari Niehaus, Peg Schmitz, Sandy Dietrich, Cathy Kohl, George Shipley and Sonja Waller.
Secretary’s Report: James moved to accept the report. Peg seconded. Accepted. Membership Report: Kari asked how we notify members of our meetings. We informed her that we e-mail people as reminders on the week a meeting occurs. Our general practice has been to set up the meetings for the whole year (and they usually match up with the CROM lectures. The board has agreed to pay ½ of the NRA dues for new members. We also pay ½ the dues for Board members. Sonja spoke to Juliet Fried about a student chapter but Juliet felt that that wouldn’t work. James and Sandy will approach Nancy Smith for formal support of CRA. Nobody has probably asked her before. If a person from CRA could also get on the Employee Council, he/she could advocate for CRA. March 22 is National Rehab Counselor Appreciation Day. Linda Winslow, Executive Director of NRA, has e-mailed to say she would be willing to attend a meeting to help us out if we would want her to come.
Legislative Report: Wilma was not present; however, George discussed Bill 41 again and not much has changed on that front as of yet.
Treasurer’s Report: Our savings account has $8, 234.80. The checking account has $258.11. George moved to accept the report and James seconded.
Website Report: George reported he has updated the website. He will put minutes and meeting dates on the website. OLD Business: James has cancelled the May 17 th training due to the difficulty getting speakers. We will reschedule next meeting. James will ask Cathy West-Evans or her husband when they are available to speak. George will do the same for Dr. Scott Primack. Sonja will contact Juliet Fried. Peg has two disabled clients and Sandy has one that could speak. We also discussed the conference including “hot” jobs in the future. Perhaps someone from the Department of Labor could speak on that. Future meetings: February 16, March 16, April 20, To be determined, June 22.
Meeting Adjourned.
CRA BOARD MEETING February 23, 2007
In Attendance: James Green, Sonja Waller, George Shipley, Peg Schmitz, Sandy Dietrich, Cathy Kohl. The meeting was held at George’s office on Prince Street. Secretary’s Report: James moved to accept the report. Sonja seconded. Accepted. Membership Report: Sonja Waller has agreed to be membership chairman. She asked what the Board thought of starting a student chapter at UNC. Everyone thought that would be a great idea. Since Sonja just took over, James connected with two new people who have contacted James with an interest in CRA meetings. Brenda Mosby was one; however, Brenda does not have transportation to our meetings and lives downtown. The second lady works in Thornton and cannot take the time off to come to the meetings. The Board moved to pay the full membership fee for NRA/CRA for new members of the Board. Ongoing member of the Board will be reimbursed ½ of their membership in NRA/CRA.
Legislative Report: Wilma was not present; however, George discussed Bill 41 again and a lively discuss ensued.
Treasurer’s Report: Our savings account has $8, 234.80. The checking account has $328.31. George moved to accept the report and James seconded.
Website Report: George has reformatted his hard drive and has to re-install software for website. Spring training was discussed May 17, 2007 was chosen as the date. Job Placement was the agreed upon theme for the training. James and George looked at different sites and a site has been chosen and reserved in Arapahoe County. James is still trying to get ahold of Cathy West-Evan to confirm a date with her. George will contact Scott Primack. George will also get all of us copies of the material he used for his presentation on Wired for Work. We will also look into Adaptive Tech as possible speakers. Additional Suggestions for Topics: How to get a Government Job with a panel of HR people from Federal, State, County and City offices. Ethics Training was also discussed as a ‘must”. Sonja suggested Ken Galaya from UNC. Her experience finds him a dynamic speaker. Also we discussed whether we want to charge for the training? A consensus was reached to wait until we see what the cost of training is going to be. It was also suggested that we could credit the cost of the training toward NRA membership. Future meetings: February 16, March 16, April 20, May 11 (May 17—Traning), June 22.
Meeting Adjourned.
